Brake Pads are Critical to Your Performance

Your brakes are obviously one of the most important systems on your entire vehicle. When they are not in proper functional condition, operation of the vehicle is downright dangerous. The best way to monitor and maintain them starts by having a basic understanding of how they work and which components are the most critical.

Your brake pads are the component that create the stopping power. That is why they also suffer from the worst wear and tear and require replacement more often than any other piece of the system.

When you depress the brake pedal, the master cylinder will force brake fluid through the system to your calipers. Your calipers house the brake pads. This influx of fluid causes the calipers to compress your brake pads to then make contact with and squeeze your rotors, creating friction. It is this friction that causes your rotors to slow and your vehicle to stop.

If you have any other brake replacement or repair related questions, then feel free to ask one of the experts in our service department here at Pitre Kia in Albuquerque, NM.
